Power the strip without guessing.

Once the lighting is selected, choosing power becomes a compatibility decision. Match the voltage, size enough capacity for the connected load, decide how the lighting should be controlled, and verify that the exact power product fits the installation.

This guide focuses on constant-voltage LED strip systems. Exact voltage, wattage, dimming support, environmental rating, input requirements, and compatibility should always be verified for the specific power product you plan to use.

A Simple Buying Path

Start with the load. Then match the power.

The power source should be selected around the lighting system—not the other way around. Four checks narrow the decision quickly.

01 / VOLTAGE

Match the strip voltage exactly.

The rated DC output voltage of the driver or power supply must match the rated voltage of the constant-voltage LED lighting.

02 / CAPACITY

Size for the connected LED load.

Determine how much power the lighting requires, apply the planning headroom, then choose an available power source that meets or exceeds that target.

03 / CONTROL

Decide whether and how it should dim.

Non-dimmable, phase-cut, 0–10V, PWM, and other control approaches require different compatible products and system architecture.

Verify the real installation.

Environment, input power, physical size, access, wiring, mounting, and product-specific requirements can determine which power source actually fits the project.

Do not choose by wattage alone.

A higher wattage number does not automatically make a power source compatible. Voltage, control method, environment, input requirements, and the connected lighting all still need to agree.

Step 01 / Match Voltage

Voltage comes before wattage.

Before comparing power capacity or dimming features, confirm the electrical architecture the lighting actually requires.

LED Lighting

Find the strip's rated voltage.

Start with the actual lighting product or variant you plan to use. Constant-voltage LED strip may be designed around 12V, 24V, 48V, or another specified voltage architecture.

Check The rated operating voltage on the exact lighting product.
DC Output

Match the power-source output.

The driver's or power supply's rated DC output voltage must match the constant-voltage LED lighting it will power.

Check Output voltage—not just product name or wattage.
AC Input

Confirm the available electrical input.

Power products also have an allowed input-voltage range. Verify that the product is designed for the electrical source and installation where it will be used.

Check The published AC input specification for the exact model.
Match constant-voltage lighting and power-source voltage exactly. Under-voltage can result in dim output or failure to light. Over-voltage can overdrive the lighting and create overheating or damage risk.
Step 02 / Size the Capacity

Size power around the actual LED load.

Once voltage is matched, determine how much electrical power the connected lighting needs. Use the actual product wattage specification rather than estimating from strip type or length alone.

Add 20% planning headroom.

First calculate the connected LED load. Then apply the standard planning headroom before choosing an available power-source size.

LED load × 1.20 = planning target

The selected driver or power supply still needs the correct output voltage and must satisfy any other product-specific requirements.

Determine the LED load. In this example, the connected lighting requires 50W.

Choose an available size at or above the target. Then verify voltage, dimming, environment, input, and other requirements for that exact product.
Step 03 / Choose the Control Approach

“Dimmable” is not one universal feature.

Decide how you want the lighting to behave before choosing the final power product. The exact driver family needs to support the control method used by the system.

Simple Power

On/off without driver dimming.

If the project does not require dimming through the power source, a compatible non-dimmable constant-voltage supply may provide the simpler path.

Phase-Cut

Wall-dimmer compatibility matters.

Phase-cut systems may involve different dimmer and driver requirements. Do not assume every product described as dimmable supports every phase-cut method.

Dedicated Control

0–10V, PWM, and other methods are family-specific.

Some driver families support dedicated control methods beyond phase-cut dimming. The supported protocols must come from current documentation for that family.

Controllers

The power source may not be the control device.

Tunable-white, RGB, smart, wireless, and other controlled systems may use separate controllers or a different architecture. Control placement depends on the system.

Never assume all EMITEVER drivers have the same dimming capability. Driver and control support differs by product family. Verify the exact model before choosing a dimmer or finalizing the wiring architecture.
Step 04 / Fit the Installation

The right specs still need the right location.

Two drivers can have the same output voltage and wattage while being designed for very different environments, control methods, electrical inputs, and installation conditions.

Environment

Verify where the power product can live.

Indoor, damp, wet, exterior, enclosed, or otherwise exposed locations can require different construction and protection. Use the rating for the exact product rather than assuming every driver has the same environmental capability.

Physical Fit

Make sure it actually fits the space.

Dimensions, mounting location, service access, wiring entry, enclosure requirements, and surrounding components can matter just as much as electrical capacity.

Connections

Know how power enters and leaves the device.

Input wiring, low-voltage output wiring, conductor layout, connection method, and downstream topology depend on the selected product and complete system design.

Verify Before Buying

Read the exact power-product specifications.

Once you have narrowed the type of power source you need, verify the current specifications for the exact model and wattage before checkout.
