What's the difference between COB and standard (SMD) LED strips?
COB (Chip-on-Board) strips pack thousands of tiny chips directly onto the PCB in a continuous line, eliminating visible hotspots. SMD strips have larger, spaced individual LEDs that can create a dotted look, especially at lower densities. COB is recommended for architectural applications where a seamless light line matters.
What power supply do I need for a 24V strip?
Calculate total wattage: multiply the strip's watts-per-foot by total run length, then add 20% headroom. For example, a 16.4ft strip at 3W/ft = ~50W โ use a 60W or larger 24V driver. Our LED System Builder calculates this automatically.
Can I connect multiple strips end-to-end?
Yes, but voltage drop limits practical single-run length. For standard 24V strips, we recommend no more than 32.8ft from a single feed point. For runs beyond that, feed power at multiple points or upgrade to the Emitever 48V system for runs up to 65ft without voltage drop.
Will these strips work with my existing Lutron or Leviton dimmer?
The strip lights themselves are dimmable, but the dimmer switch must control the LED driver โ not the strip directly. You need a compatible Triac, ELV, or MLV dimmable LED driver between your wall switch and the strips. Emitever offers drivers specifically tested with Lutron Caseta and Leviton dimmers.
Are the waterproof IP67 strips truly outdoor-safe?
IP67-rated strips can withstand temporary submersion and are suitable for outdoor soffits, decks, bathrooms, and covered outdoor areas. They are NOT rated for continuous submersion. The 24V power supply or driver must also be appropriately rated for outdoor use if installed outside.
What is the difference between Tunable White (CCT) and single-color strips?
A tunable white (CCT) strip has both warm and cool white chips on the same strip and requires a 2-channel CCT controller to blend between them. Single-color strips have one color temperature and only require a 1-channel dimmer. Tunable white costs a bit more but gives you full flexibility to match any mood or task.
