What's the real difference between SMD and COB?
SMD strips have individually visible LED chips spaced along the tape โ great for flexibility and cost. COB strips pack LEDs so densely that the light appears as one continuous, seamless line with no visible dots โ better for exposed, decorative runs.
Can I use an indoor strip outdoors?
No โ indoor strips are rated IP30 and are not weather resistant. For outdoor use (patios, landscaping, pools, RV awnings) choose one of our IP67 waterproof COB or SMD strips.
Do I need to buy a power supply separately?
Our tunable white COB, RGB COB, and indoor SMD kit strips include a matching 24V power supply and remote. Our waterproof outdoor strips are sold as strip-only โ pair with a compatible 24V driver rated for the strip's wattage.
How short can I cut the strip?
SMD strips are cuttable every 0.98โ1.97 inches depending on the model; COB strips cut every 0.98 inches (25mm). Cut only along the marked copper cutting lines.
Can I connect multiple reels together?
Yes โ most kits include tape-to-tape or wire-lead connectors so you can extend a run. Check the max run length for your specific model before connecting multiple reels to one power supply.
Which strip has the best color accuracy?
Our SMD indoor kits and IP67 SMD outdoor strips reach CRI95+, the highest in the collection. COB strips are CRI90+ โ still excellent for accent and display lighting.
